APPLYING

IMPORTANT:
STAY ON TOP OF DEADLINES

Early Action/Early Decision Deadlines are mid-October to November 1st of your senior year.

Regular Decision Deadlines are anywhere from mid-December of your senior year to the August after graduation.

Rolling Admission means that the school does not have an application deadline, and they'll get decisions back to you pretty quickly (within a month, usually).

Schools with Rolling Admission: ECU, Fayetteville State, UNC-Asheville, and more!

CFNC.org

has applications for all colleges and universities in North Carolina

You need an account on CFNC.org anyway to complete the NC Residency Determination Service if you are applying to any public colleges and universities in NC.

You can also electronically send your transcript to NC colleges and universities through CFNC.org.

CommonApp.org

easiest interface, has applications from colleges and universities all over the world

NC colleges and universities on CommonApp: Duke, Wake Forest, UNC Chapel Hill, Davidson, NC State, Appalachian State, UNC Wilmington, UNC Asheville, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, Meredith, Queens University of Charlotte, Garnder-Webb, High Point, Salem College, Johnson & Wales, Warren Wilson, Guillford, St. Andrews

If your school is neither on CFNC.org nor on CommonApp.org, check out their admissions site to find out how best to apply.

Sending ACT/SAT Scores

Some colleges and universities allow school faculty, like me, to directly send students' ACT and SAT scores. However, some colleges and universities require ACT/SAT scores to be send directly from ACT or CollegeBoard, respectively.

ACT

If you send ACT scores to colleges and universities during the ACT registration, you can send your ACT scores to 4 schools for free.

To send ACT scores after you have taken the test:

  1. Log in to ACT.org account.
  2. Click "Send Your Score" for whichever test date you want to send.
  3. Indicate what schools you want to send your ACT scores to.

It costs $13 per school you want to send your scores to. If you qualify for fee waivers, you can send up to 20 free score reports.

SAT

Everyone can send SAT scores to 4 schools for free. For every additional school, it costs $12 ($0 if you used a fee waiver). It doesn't matter whether you send SAT scores before or after taking the test.

To send SAT scores:

  1. Log in to your CollegeBoard account.
  2. Click on your name on the upper right corner.
  3. Click "My SAT."
  4. Scroll down, click the yellow "Send Available Scores" button to the right of your score(s).
  5. Select the schools you want to send your SAT scores to.

Application Fees

If you qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, have received SAT/ACT fee waivers before, or have other extenuating financial circumstances that make paying application fees difficult, see Ms. Tran for a fee waiver so that you can pay $0 for applying to school!

In mid-to-late October, CFNC sponsors College Application Week. During this week, it is free to submit applications to many (but not all) North Carolina colleges and universities. To take advantage of College Application Week, work on college applications as soon as you can!

Note: It is always free to apply to North Carolina Community Colleges!
